Welcome to the future of Shepton Mallet
Shepton 21 Regeneration Partnership is a Not For Proft organisation that is committed to enabling a successful future for our town and surrounding villages. Our published Vision is to ensure a vibrant and sustainable local community that benefits residents, businesses, the peolpe who work in those businesses and visitors to this, the most lovely part of Somerset.
Created by and for local people, Shepton 21's initial task was to produce a Community Plan. That plan, At A Crossroads was completed 4 years ago with the highest consultation rate, by a long way, of any other project completed in Somerset, indeed in the entire Market and Coastal Towns Initiative. Far more people contributed than voted for the council. All statutory bodies in the area agreed to and adopted the plan as part of their own Community Planning initiatives in the Shepton Mallet area.
Shepton's Community Plan is used on a regular basis, by councils and other bodies, as evidence of what the community wants. The Townscape Heritage Initiative Lottery funding was gained using it as well English Heritage monies and many other pots of money. At A Crossroads addresses the physical and social environment of the area and informs the exciting plans we are committed to facilitating. As a partnership organisation, we welcome continued input from the local community to take forward our aims. You’ll find out more about how to get involved, and about our exciting projects, by clicking through the site - we look forward to talking with you. You can volunteer for a short period on a one off basis or regularily, it's up to you. All assistance is gratefully received.
Those with the time and necessary commitment are very welcome to join the management committee, usually by way of the AGM where committee members are elected democratically according to the rules of our constitution. (See below.)
Don't forget that if you need information about the town and surrounding villages, Lorraine and her team at the Tourist Information Centre, at the Haskins end of the High Street, have a huge knowledge.
The Heritage Centre alongside it houses a selection of items relating to Shepton Mallet's history.
The TIC is also the place to go for tickets for almost everything within a 20 mile radius.
