Smartening Up the Shopping Centre  Shepton Mallet has many lovely old buildings, but the centre has become a little bit shabby over the years. The Facelift Project is one of several iniatives that will help change that.
Under this scheme, grants are now available for of up to 60% of the cost of work necessary to enhance the appearance of properties in the historic centre. For example, a property owner or tenant may spend up to £5000 with approved contractors and Shepton 21 will pay up to £3000 of that. These grants are intended to enhance the centre of Shepton to make it more attractive to visitors and shoppers, but are not intended for major structural and repair works. However, SOME of the properties in the centre will be eligible for grants for structural work under the Townscape Heritage Initiative. An application form and list of approved contractors may be downloaded below in PDF format.
