Shepton in Bloom Shepton in Bloom is another community led group of volunteers operating in the town. Led by Lyn Manvil, the group has great links to Shepton Mallet Rotary Club who turn out twice a year to manhandle the hanging baskets up and down from their brackets. In 2009 Quadron have been employed to water thrice weekly, once with feed. Businesses in the town make a donation each year to cover a hanging basket and winter/spring planting. The group also receives public funds from both Mendip District Council and Shepton Mallet Town Council. The bed at the top of the High Street, outside the Tourist Information Centre, has been planted this year. A huge effort was made in time for the Shepton Show in an effort to inspire everyone who came along to share a fabulous Sunday with us all on August 16th. Shepton in Bloom would like to thank the businesses that donated plants, transport and even bottles on water to thirsty volunteers. This year though the wet and damp weather has taken its toll on our lovely baskets. Some will have to come down earlier than usual. The call will go out to volunteers to plant bulbs and winter/spring plants later in the year. If you would like to help, even just for a couple of hours twice a year, Shepton in Bloom would love to hear from you. Please contact Mike Perry, our Secretary, on 01749 346386 In 2010 we intend to make a huge effort to enter Britain in Bloom..... watch this space. |
