Marketing Shepton
(05/11/2009 05.35pm)

All the other Mendip towns have quite a strong identity and 'brand image'. Shepton does not. This is the brief that has gone to marketing companies who might take on this project.

Brief for Quotation

Design & Marketing the Town of Shepton Mallet

Shepton Mallet has a wealth of history with many Georgian shops in the town centre still remaining. Unfortunately it was tarnished by the architecture of the 1970’s and many local people have a preconceived negative opinion of the town,

In the last few years the town has been undergoing a regeneration programme, including a facelift scheme to renovate existing shop fronts and reface some of the poor architectural features. New people are moving to the town of Shepton Mallet, surrounding villages, and to Somerset itself. Many are from London or large cities, seeking a life in the countryside. They come with high expectations.

This is an exciting opportunity to influence the shape of the town over the next few years.

Branding the town should reflect an image and its perception globally, and we should foresee its evolution. The challenge is to create an identity capable of recognition at all levels of society and culture which should be applied consistently across different media.

The town is a place to live and work. It should appeal to greater investment from outside, attract new visitors from a wider area and persuade visitors to stay longer and return for further visits.

The Re-brand should incorporate the following;

A. How should Shepton Mallet be represented?

A Brand is a trust mark—form of a name, logo, and/or symbol that evokes a perception of added value. It should communicate the essence of the town.

B. How should Shepton Mallet grow?  What is the overall ethos / brand essence?

     There are many variables and examples of towns today;
•    A very active, commercial shopping area
•    A peaceful town, focused on the family
•    A designer town with very creative ambience
•    A classy, romantic town
•    Etc…..

C. How do we attract new business to the town centre?
        Implementation should encompass the logistics of the town centre…..

How do we get people from the top of the town centre to the bottom of town finding ways to prolong their stay?
