Bands in the Park Collett Park is indeed the jewel in the crown of Shepton Mallet and on Sunday July 13th the first of this summer's Sunday concerts with the Bratton Silver Band taking the bandstand. More than 60 people came along on a lovely Sunday afternoon to watch and listen. The band played for almost The Joint Churches of Shepton Mallet brought along refreshments and the money raised by the teas and Mrs Penn's wonderful apple cake will be going to CLIC Sargeant. The total for the afternoon was £77.07. Some people brought rugs to sit on and picnics to enjoy with the whole family. Shepton Mallet Town Council provided seating and Collett Park the wonderful setting. Next Sunday (July 20th) sees the arrival of the Clevedon Brass Band to entertain us and we look forward to seeing you all there.
On Sunday July 20th the Clevedon Brass Ensemble travelled east to play for us in Collett Park. Over a hundred people joined family and friends to sit and listen to the music. The weather stayed fine again but the musicians did struggle with the wind playing havoc with their sheet music. Some fine solos were heard and there was plenty of music to watch girls by.... Another collection was taken, this time for the Community Hospital as it was their weekend for fund raising. Shepton 21 handed over a cheque for £58.56, thank you to all of you who put their hands in their pockets! |
